Trees can make up approximately 15-20% of a home’s value, and provide many aesthetic benefits. Many home owners or potential home owners do not realize that new construction around trees can have devastating effects if trees are not properly protected during and after the construction process. Trees that are not protected can be damaged, making them more susceptible to insects and disease. We provide pre-construction planning and mitigation work to help save trees during and after development.
We can identify and treat diseases and pest problems, before they cause serious damage. Many diseases and insects can be present without being obvious right away. They can cause stress to your trees, making them more susceptible to other problems, long before the trees begin to decline. Early detection and treatment of disease and pest problems will help to keep your trees healthy, strong and looking great from one season to the next.
Choosing a tree is an important decision and can be a large investment. Our Master Arborist can meet with you to recommend the right tree species for your area and help you select the appropriate location to achieve the effect that you desire.
Once your tree is installed, we can help insure its success with a Tree Maintenance Program. Just like a young child, newly planted trees require attention and care if we want them to grow up healthy and strong. Too often, trees are planted and do not receive any care. In this time, the tree can develop poor structure or become sick and die. There are also insects and diseases that can attack newly planted trees. Our Master Arborist can recommend a program that is tailored to the species and site characteristics of your trees to help them grow up to be healthy and strong.
Let us keep your trees and landscape healthy and looking their best with a state of the art prescription fertilization program that is specifically designed to address the needs of your property.
Trees and plants grow in soil, but all soils are not the same. Soils can vary drastically from one property to another. Previous treatments to your property can also have an impact on your soil and its nutritional value. We approach fertilization scientifically, using a soil analysis to determine the specific attributes of your soil, to identify nutrient deficiencies and other soil-based problems.
A slow-release fertilizer can be blended specifically for your property based on the soil analysis results and the types of trees on your property. This custom solution is applied to the soil around the roots of your trees and plants to improve nutrient uptake.
Prescription-based, slow-release fertilization of your trees and landscape will improve the health and appearance of your trees and landscape in an environmentally responsible manner.
Soil conditioning is an innovative new approach to improving the growing conditions for existing trees. This process stimulates growth in the root system, which results in a healthier, more attractive tree.
Trees are a great asset to a property and can be costly to have removed if they are damaged or die. Lightning strikes the ground more than 9,000 times each year in the Brazos County. Many times lightning makes its path to the ground through trees, since they are often the tallest conductors. Lightning can instantly kill trees or weaken them so severely that they can be attacked and killed by boring insects or other secondary invaders. The risk of damage to your trees from a lightning strike can be greatly reduced with the installation of a lightning protection system.
Plant People is knowledgeable and skilled in the proper installation of tree lightning protection systems to help protect your trees. We incorporate a lightning strike indicator that allows us to determine if your system has been struck so the appropriate treatments can be made.
Tree cabling is sometimes recommended to help support tree limbs or stems that have a defect which increases the potential for failure. A high strength cable is installed in the tree canopy to provide mechanical support to the defective parts. The cable helps reduce the risk of damage from winds, storms, or even the weight of the foliage or seed crop. Cables do not completely eliminate the risk of failure; this can only be achieved by removing the defective parts or the entire tree.
Tree bracing is a method that may be recommended to help support a tree that may be leaning or have a large limb that needs additional support to provide clearance. Bracing can be used in lieu of removing a limb which may be too large to remove without harming the health of the tree.
